Top Spa Trend Predictions for 2010

According to SpaFinder, here are the top trend predictions for 2010:

- Prevention: With the current global healthcare crisis, prevention is going to be the next "it" word. Nothing new here. As an aesthetician, the most important thing I teach my clients is prevention.

- Ever heard of hammam? If you haven't, this will be the year to learn its meaning. I also have not heard of this, but here's what I found:
Hammam means "spreader of warmth". Middle Easterners have practiced this for years, and its just now becoming popular in the U.S. It is a steam bath. First you relax in a room called, "the warm room." It is heated continuously with dry hot air. From there, bathers move to an even hotter room called the "hot room." After relaxing, and sweating in this room, you splash yourself with cold water. Then you recieve a massage, and then retire to a cooling room to relax. Sounds good to me.

- Belonging to a Spa- much like belonging to a gym, you no longer go, but you belong. More and more spas are offering membership programs and are also casted as social hubs for other activities. This is a pretty cool idea, but I would think it also costs a pretty penny.

-Online Spa- Nowadays everything is online. It is more accessible to see information about spa businesses and what they offer. You can book treatments, receive specials, join social networking sites through spa businesses, and now can even find the nearest spa on your cellphone.

- The hybrid spa- I'm seeing this a lot now. There's not just day spas anymore, there's medical spas, wellness centers, fitness centers, hospitals, doctors and specialists, dentists, that are all starting to offer spa elements into their businesses.

The industry is growing exponentially and will only continue to do so. So many of us lead busy, stressful lives, and what a great way to unload and relax than to be pampered and recieve services that we know are going to benefit not only our skin, our appearances, but also our health. Stay spas are also growing because now you can travel to special destinations and book special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, wedding parties, and so forth, with endless treatment options and amenities.
